Journal Blog #1: Summary.

As we have seen in class, summarizing is a tricky thing. Because we are human beings with different experiences and different perceptions, our stories of what happened can be very different, even if we all witnessed the same thing in the same place at the same time.

Granted... it is a lot trickier when asking different people to summarize an artistic piece like we did in class. But this can still be true for other kinds of text. We have very important decisions to make about what is important and what is not. And for that reason, we are quite powerful in shaping the minds of our readers about what is important and what is not.

For this first journal blog, let's look at our course book. You have been assigned to a chapter from the book by Adair. Because this course will focus a lot on how to think and write creatively (and thereby interestingly), please help us and summarize the key ideas from your chapter. Use your own words, and use your own minds to determine what is key for all of us to know.

Please don't write more than a 100-word paragraph.

Remember to include your ID# in your post, and I will record your participation. Aj. M

  1. Chapter 9: For overall, It's about how can we be a good listener. When we are the audience we need to pay an attention to the speaker with the comprehension and using your brain in the open mind way. Listeners have to be as creative as the speaker so it helps you find out the points what they're trying to say or explain. From the passage '' Every one has an idea and one in a dozen people to get one good idea ''. We can't judge something by its cover for being a good listeners too sometimes we might disagree to the speaker but maybe they have their own reasons, so the best way is to respect and be silent (depends on situation). Lastly, we can't be a talker if we don't know how to listen. ID: 6280640

  2. Chapter 4: When the knowledge of two totally different fields is combined to produce something or a technology is more likely to be known as creative thinking. Having to apply the principle and developing the technology to a new task is a rather difficult to be achieved, as having a full knowledge of only one field will never be enough to produce a whole new product. The lack of expert or specialized knowledge in a specific field would not be a barrier to make a creative contribution. Therefore it is not surprising that inventors and other creative thinkers may have knowledge in more than one field. “Widen your span of relevance” by traveling and exploring around the world, one may discover possibilities that may appear to others as irrelevant but the portion of truth arises from the seemingly irrelevant!

  3. Chapter 2: There are many ways to invent new ideas to facilitate human lives, especially creative thinking, and the conspicuous idea is adopted from nature. To be specific, people follow animals being and evolve these behaviors to solve their problems, such as radar from bats. Moreover, people always create and adapt the process directly from nature, such as hierarchy. However, people should not copy directly because it can cause unexpected consequences. Inventions can be found in any situation with creative ideas. The same as Soichiro Honda that can solve the design problem of his innovation while doing a religious activity.

  4. Chapter 5: To summarize, this passage is about explaining the meaning of serendipity and how everyone practises it unconsciously. Serendipity propose a chance of making a valuable discovery when we are not really searching for it. Being a serendipitous helps you become spontaneous and not concentrate on one goal. It widens your span of attention which makes you notice things that were insignificant to you at the present. It is helpful to plan life, sometimes it may not turn out the way you want it but you may find unexpected things which may make you happy. You will also be rewarded for thinking even though it is not what you expected. A thinker should be venturesome so you can explore options which may results in unpredictable findings. Lastly, with these experiences in life it makes it clearer to see the effects of serendipity in your life.

  5. Chapter 4 : This passage mainly gives ideas relating to how people can actually adapt or develop their particular skills into large contributions. There are several given examples. Firstly, an agriculturalist was able to apply new technology into two fields of his current knowledge, eventually resulting in various inventions. On top of this, turning a crisis into an opportunity is also an option when it comes to widening your span as using only small source of available technologies could possibly change to something that is irrelevant to the current goals but instead a useful source for other people's aims. Lastly, making new discoveries is also an essential way that leads to distinct inventions because it is a mean of experiencing exactly the same things but learning from them differently.

  6. Chapter 8: To sum up, all of people receive the information from their eyes. Sometimes, most people may not recognize what they had just watched. Therefore, they should improve the ability of making detailed observations. One of the best ways to develop the observation skills is drawing or sketching. It can recall the situations in the past not only the time or place but also the sounds and smells.

  9. Chapter 5
Serendipity is discovering significant things or events unexpectedly and you do this without being aware of it. It opens doors for creative ideas and possibilities. Serendipity is not about concentrating on one thing but rather a broader span of focus. You may find some things that do not seem important at the moment, but it will be helpful in the future. It also makes you become flexible and open to new ideas. Surely, you have experienced serendipity in your life whether you realize it or not. Looking back at life, you may have gained some things that were not your goals but yet it turned out to be a very good thing.

  10. chapter 2 : Basically, this passage is telling us about several ways of solving problems or facilitating life by using analogy from nature. People can modify inventions or create new ideas by using things around them as models. In other words, those things were not created from nothing.
To create new inventions, people need to study from a variety of things in the past but not directly copy them because it might be heading to the problem in the future.

  12. Chapter 9:

Chapter 9, "Listen for ideas," talks about what it means to be a good listener. The key to being a good listener is to be open-minded - having curiosity and desire to know or learn. In addition, a good listener must not only listen but also absorb and express ideas; this accounts for why the ability to talk well and ability to listen are related. Overall, listening for ideas is a vital part in becoming a creative writer.

  13. Chapter 6: To conclude, many inventions come from an unexpected scenario which seems to be very interesting, many scientists that face this situation mostly figure out the new ideas and become successful. In addition, an accident does not hundred percent help scientists find the answer, but they must focus on every detail and become more sensitive to the work in order to prepare for any unfortunate situation.

  14. Chapter 8: To sump up, it implies how we can perceive an object by drawing and by being a clever observer. In order to paint, we have to feel not to see. Observing through mere eyes can overlook creative ideas so we should observe more closely and comprehensively. And because sketching can increase people’s awareness of the world around them, people will remember every moment while painting and will forever be able to recall it. There are still undiscovered things hidden in everything we see, so instead of looking with only our eyes we also look at them with the perceptions of others. That’s the reason why creative thinking needs good observation skills.

  15. Chapter 2
This passage talks about the notion of being inspired by something completely out of the way of what you might create which already exists regularly in our daily life, mostly involved or linked to nature. Many inventions come from problems that have been solved by creative individuals. Creativity comes from models that you see in nature, society, or every day life. People do not have to create from nothing and to avoid some problems from directly copy the pattern, they just have to apply or modify the solution from things around them. In other words, solving problems by using analogy is using normal things to suggest new uses.

"Human cannot make anything out of nothing". The substances were already exist for us to create a new creature. The word 'creative' makes people tend to think that it's belong to something which is formed far from the original product but is that so when everything was already there in the air. They were waiting for us to combined them together. If you tried to sketch something out, it might turn out to be a thing which you borrowed a particular part from an already exist substances to create itself in a new form.

  18. Chapter 5 : This chapter is to clarify the definition of serendipity. Serendipity is a good word, which means discovery something valuable by chance. Therefore, people should be more open-minded and adventurous so that it will show something you never wonder that it still exists or useful for yourself until you see it.

  22. Chapter 1: What is it like to have undiscovered animals from a deep jungle instead of usual pets? Anything you are imagine now can be that undiscover animal. For humans, we can not make anything out of nothing. Artist will combine their ideas, vision and materials to make their piece of work. So, your undiscovered animal may have a characteristic of other animals and your ideas in it.

Being a creative thinker doesn't mean you will have to create something new, you can just combine what has already exist with your ideas. Creativity brings beauty, significance and existance.
