Journal Blog #5: State your Purpose.

As I noted in class, I have never liked talking about essay topics. There is nothing wrong with the word topic, of course. However, there are so many topics floating around, some of relevance and some of not. And we can just reach out and catch one for the fulfillment of a university essay assignment, write it to moderate satisfaction for all involved, and move on.

Purpose is more poignant. It suggests that we have a reason for writing. We have an objective to meet. With a topic, you can complete an assignment. With a purpose, you can write something meaningful.

But once again, it is often difficult to articulate what our purpose is. You may find yourself wandering through vagaries, trying to be purposeful but finding yourself ultimately purposeless. I don't know about you, but on many occasions, I have been caught trying to tell someone what I'm writing about, only to realize after minutes of babble, that I haven't the slightest clue what it is.

I think Jacob's gives us a nice recipe for cutting out the babble. 4 sentences for a purpose statement. For this journal blog, work to write a brief, precise, and coherent purpose statement.

Remember to include your ID# in your post. Aj. M

  1. Thailand is a diverse country, it is a mix of different cultures, race and colors. Because of this factor Thailand is considered a very habitable country as they try to embrace all cultures and people. However,Thailand only welcome certain kind of people who fit into their definition of Thainess. This may mean that the assumption of Thailand being open to all cultures and people may have been exaggerated. Thailand don't accept Thai-Indians as they don't fit into their definition of a Thai. This may mean only those people who Thais have a positive attitudes towards will be welcomed. The purpose of this study is to expose the prejudice faced by Thai-Indians and its ill effects on them.

    1. This is well-constructed. The purpose is very clear. This essay will be about what "Thainess" is and how Thai-Indians don't seem to fit in that definition.

  2. Adults have always tell their kids or other children to stay away for cigarettes as cause harmful disease. However, these adults still smoke in public places and kids take them as an example. This shows that adults can say point things out but they would not be able to follow or understand what they say to these kids. The purpose of the study is to show how to really educate your kids about cigarettes and hoe to stop these bad habits.

  3. Loy Krathong is undoubtedly a remarkable tradition that has taken root in Thailand – The Land of Smiles – for ages, and it seems to continue being enduring regardless of time passed. Every year, people come together with their decorated floating material (Krathong) shaped like traditional Thai dishes (Hor Mok) to pay respect to the water goddess, Phra Mae Kongka, apologizing and making wishes for the better sake. There is absolute advocacy to promote and keep on this tradition as the “tradition” shapes who we are and the way we grow up since we were born. Tradition defines the spirit of the natives and this should be enough to clarify that abandoning it is mostly impossible. However, what is showed to the world is only a mere outer surface. One hidden major issue causing by the tradition itself and its people is pollution. Another true story that people have to admit is that “modern” Krathongs are generally made out of contaminated materials by which not only do they produce trash, but they also pollute water sources in the area. It is no good maintaining old, precious tradition yet, at the same time destroying the environment we are living with. This may suggest that there must be ways to work out for the Thai Festival to adapt to the modern world before it results in detrimental consequences. The purpose of this study is to look for any possible methods to make a Krathong become more environmentally friendly and in which direction the tradition should be reorganized and regulated.

  4. We always hear about people committing suicide especially among people around aged 15-25 years old. They commit suicide because they don't want to be alive. However, people who committing suicide don't really want to die. It is impulsive thinking. If people commit suicide because they think they really want to die, but it is because of impulsive thinking, maybe this advice that people misunderstand that suicidal ideation is not mental illness. Maybe, people need to understand about suicidal ideation then they will not commit suicide, and people can other who want to commit suicide. The purpose of this study is to understand about suicidal ideation ,and expose how suicide can decrease if people understand more about suicidal ideation. Furthermore, this work show the proper way to help people who have suicidal ideation.

  5. Presently, the traffic in Bangkok is the major problem of Thailand because of the terrible public transportation. Therefore, Thai people would like to have their own cars for commuting in their daily life. However, it looks comfortable but it actually not. If all of Thai people think in the same way, there will be a lot of cars on the road and the thing that upcoming is traffic jams. Moreover, Thai people who have cars, they need to spend time of commuting more than others who use public transportation. The purpose of this study is to know why public transport is bad and no one wants to use it. Furthermore, this work intends to expose the solutions of traffic in Bangkok. Not only solve the traffic problem but also air pollution.

  6. Thais don’t really understand the sickness called “Major depressive disorder”. Most of Thais think people who suffered from this sickness are calling or asking for attention, self-willed and not at all trying to understand others. But the symptoms of those who suffer from this illness are not at all like that. There are levels of symptoms where it could tell how worst is the person suffering from this illness, there are many kind of this sickness.

The causes of being Major depressive disorder is not just “Don’t get love and warm from their parents”. There are many more reasons to that, congenital, theory of love and relationship, characteristic of the person, environment of places and uncountable reasons to cause this illness.

In old time where medical practice in Thailand was not develop, Thai considered this sickness as “Disease or Madness” when this illness cannot be infected. This illness was acceptable to be “illness” just around year 2007 where medical practice in Thailand were developing and the rate of people who suffered from this illness rapidly rises.

The purpose of this expository writing is to let the readers know the history of this illness, what “Major depressive disorder” is, the causes and type of this illness, how to know that the readers are suffering from this illness or not, symptoms, words and actions that should be avoid to those who are suffering, how to heal and how to avoid having this illness.

  7. The drastic growth in the population of strays has been a problem to Malaysians. Based on the majority voice, the expansion of strays are mostly due to the uncontrollable breeding among strays. This is said so as, a pregnancy of a dog would give birth to an average of 4-5 offspring, think about hundreds and thousands of same situation. The expansion of the strays may have caused disturbance to Malaysians leading to animal abuse and neglect. However there are actions taken by the authorities in controlling the expansion and animal abuse or neglect. For example, the Animal Act 1953, numerous animal shelters was established, and adoption drives and fairs were organized. However, these did not result in the way it supposed to be. Malaysian still buy pets rather than adopting, and the main reason is the classification of breeds. So, the society should stop classifying animals by breed but should classify them as a general term, because a stray dog and a breed dog like German Shephard has no difference in loyalty, companionship and lifespan. The purpose of this study is to understand Malaysians opinion on strays.

  8. Education is extremely important because it provides essential skills. Thailand is one country which is focusing on education, and it is formulating students achievement by grading system and testing. A wide range of Thai people believe that grading system is able to evaluate students’ understanding; however, it seems to be true. Grading system cannot evaluate all students’ ability, knowledge, and understanding because we are human, and we have different skills and different talents. If students are birds, teaching birds to climb the trees is impossible as well as if students are fish, educating them to run might not happen. The main purpose of this study is to expose why Thailand evaluation and education is ineffective, and how this system affects students.

  9. From outsiders perspective towards Thailand it is undeniable that they are considering Thailand as a developing country. Regarding the economic activities and action taken in international scene. Because of this assumption, many people around the world or those who only know slightly about Thailand start stereotyping the Thais that we have a low standard of living. Anyhow, few people realize that Thai people are quite happy with their living here. Having access to good food, public facilities, and friendly environment within the community. This might mean that money and economic activities are not the only indicator to measure a nation’s living conditions, at least with Thailand. If Thailand is being looking down due to their business and what people have been assuming about them. This might be the time that people should start noticing about true happiness of Thais in deeper detail. The objective of this study is to explain and clarify broader in perspective of how Thai people are living their life everyday and how we are being very positive and lively.

Public transport has recently increased the cost of fares in Thailand while the standard of Thai transport has never improved as well as the old bus causes a lot of pollution. On the contrary, Industrial buses try to change their appearance and efficiency as a Small modern busses and airport buses but not all types of the bus. Ordinary buses still cause pollution. This appears that the bus industrial is improve but not all, so the issue may not be inefficient of money but none systematic money management of government. Therefore, the Thai government should rearrange the country's monetary system in order to change the majority cause of pollution and which is the buses and giving citizen benefits. The purpose of this research is to indicate the expenditure of government on public mass transportation and other inappropriate wastes of money. 13. Many of the Thai people do believe that the impact on the sea lives come from the chemical industrial and do not come from the plastic. For the past few years, Thailand has had news about the leak of the chemical eg. oil leaks to the ocean for kilometres long. However, the chemical that leaks were still be in controlled and last long for the short period. On the other hand, plastic are way more dangerous as it could not be easily disintegrate. If the plastic is able to be in controlled, the ocean lives would have survive longer. What if the local have more knowledge about the worse part in plastic, would they protect their local environment or let it and take no action. After all, will they be a change in plastic to protect our friendly sea animals and the ocean. From this approach, it is to be able to understand the impact of sea lives in Thailand if it is from man made. To be able to expose how contrast the plastic is to the environment and the facts that more knowledge should be access to everyone to helps contain the environment.

  16. Thailand has Buddhism as a national religion for more than a millennium year. Many Thai people have obsessed in this religion for a long period of time. Buddhism has put in Thai academic course for studying implying that it has to be very significant to Thai culture. Many old generations that still have conservative thoughts also have very deep-seated clout in Buddhism. This might be partly true that Thais are fostered by religion for a long time but many new rising generations are not faith in Buddhism. Moreover, they also find many contrast reasons to argue with middle-of-the-road people that have conservative thoughts. We are in globalization era and it is undeniable that social media is widely spread in every part of the world. Many news about monks and novices that do offense things have declared to public, so it is easy for younger generation to perceive that kind of news. With this reason may make many newfangled anti and try to get over from Buddhism. 17. A high amount of statistics have shown that in this decade, Thailand has road safety problems with one of the highest road accident rates in the world because Thai politicians have inadequate policies and mismanagement. Based on this assumption, Thai politics have a lack of power to decrease road accident as much as possible. On the other hand, misconduct from road users is also a rational reason that worsens road safety in Thailand. These main reasons that occurred road accident are carelessness and alcohol consumption. It might be overstated to assume that Thai politics should be responsible for Thai traffic problems. If the majority of road users can behave appropriately, and Thailand still has a high rate of the road accident. This can mean that Thai politicians should be more concerned and responsible to be safer for Thais’ basics of living. The purpose of this research is to provide several reasons and evidence that Thai politics is the major cause of road safety problems. Moreover, this study will expose how Thais change their daily if they have lower road accident rate.

  19. Global warming

The biggest issues in the world is global warming. The nature was destroyed by the hands of human. Environmentalists have observed that global warming cause by various pollution such as “air pollution” which is created by mostly Carbon Dioxide (from burning) released from vehicles. Also, deforestation is a great example to demonstrate the global warming issues. Nowadays, the airs we are breathing in are mixed with these dangerous particles from the smoke we releases, as they said “less trees, less oxygen” and nothing will get better if we still chop down trees and clearing the forest. We have to be aware that these thing we created could come back and harm our own health. However, it is also true that many people have known about this issue but did not do anything to help out or prevent this. Global warming is increasing due to the pollution, especially in Thailand known as PM 2.5. If we just let this happen, it would be difficult living here on earth as our surroundings are slowly getting worst and worst. The purpose of this is to warn and make people come to realized that this is a very big issue and we should start doing something before it’s too late. Moreover, this work intends to expose the sources that causing the global warming and we should prevent or decreasing the pollution that can make the global warming worst.

  20. Thailand is one of the countries that have the second-highest fatality rate in the world. The fatality rate of 36.2 people per 100,000 population, which is a very high ratio, can be said that Thais have a relatively high risk of death from traffic accidents, according to the World Health Organisation (2014). However, road accidents do not only affect the victims but still causing enormous losses to the Thai economy and society. Because of death and injuries, which is both physical and mental, from accidents, causing the victims and their families to lose productivity also affecting the overall potency of the country. Although road accidents cause enormous losses, many Thai people are still not aware of the danger of road accidents to themselves. If people are still not consider the consequences of accidents, the regulations that enforce for citizens might not effective. The purpose of this study is to represent the causes of road accidents in Thailand which shows that it can happen anytime and anywhere even though people might think that they are care enough.
